Track work, obedience and protection workst these are the three elements of working dog sport. Unfortunately, hardly any other sport is burdened with as many prejudices as the working dog sport.

It is the oldest dog sport of all and probably also the one that demands the most from the dogs.

It is the sport that comes closest to the instincts and dispositions of dogs in their originality.

Divided into the areas of tracking work (Department A), obedience (Dept. B) and protection work (Dept. C), a variety of demands are placed on the dog.

In thetracking workyou have to follow tracks of 400 to 800 steps and recognize and indicate (point out) three objects.

The second department is thesubordination. In exercises such as walking on the leash, free following, sitting, down and standing while moving, as well as retrieval exercises (here on level ground, free jumping over a 1m high hurdle and climbing over a 1.8m high sloping wall) the dog should show that he happily, precisely, quickly and attentively carries out the commands of the handler.

With the third department, theprotection service, completes the eventing test. Here the obedience of the dog is checked in borderline cases. It all starts with tracking down the bogus perpetrator (helper). This is followed by situations such as preventing escape attempts, guarding, preventing an attack, etc.!

Only dogs that are within the handler's sphere of influence throughout the exercise can meet these high requirements.

​

The protection service is probably the greatest challenge to the drive behavior, self-confidence and resilience (TSB) of the dog.
